Do you use the Stock engine in Factory Stock Race cars
l am building a Factory Stock Race car to race on the local dirt track and
l was wondering do people use the factory engine or do they build an
engine and put it in. If you have any other advise that would be great
too.
Its best to build one. Just make sure it appears stock. Just
keep the stock displacement and outward appearance stock and don't tell
others what is inside. The tech at local tracks don't want to tear down a
motor, they just want to do the basic stuff.
Get ur hands on the rule book & read it over & over. Depending
on the division & the rules, most teams will rebuild the engine & do some
performance upgrades. New valve springs are a must at least. Stock street
car engines weren't designed to run at high rpm for long periods of time,
so there is always room for improvement. Hook up a good oil pressure guage
& water temperature guage. Factory oil pans aren't designed for oval track
racing & sometimes the oil gets away from the pickup which results in a DNF & the need for a new engine.
its according to what rules the track sets. at some of the
tracks i race at, stock may not mean what it does at a previous track.
just be sure to look at the rules at the track or look at the rules for
who ever is putting the race on. example; the DDRA, NHRA, etc.
It all depends upon what the rules of that class at that track
allow.
Some ''Stock'' classes mandate a totally stock car with modifications fo
safety only (glass & interior removed, racing seat, rollcage, collapsible
steering column, fuel cell, etc.). Other ''Stock'' classes are more open,
allowing you to modify ur (usually) stock appearing car with all sorts of performance enhancements. Check with the track(s) you intend to run for their take on what a stock cars is & isn't. Have a great time building & racing ur car. Good Luck!!
